Pioneer Museum to expand oil display
|
 |
With increased oil activity in the area, McKenzie County has received attention from news outlets across the region and nation. It is an exciting time in the community and with increased visibility on a national scale comes increased curiosity from the public on the industry and its role in the country.
Currently the Pioneer Museum of McKenzie County features an oil display that is a successful teaching and promotional tool on seismic activity, the geology and the history of the industry, but there are more questions that need to be answered about the future of the industry and what it means to our economy and our region.
The Pioneer Museum is expanding its current oil display to include the following:
- Scale model replica of a drilling and work-over rig (8 ft in height)
- Replicas and labels of trucks, tanks and all equipment found on site (sponsoring companies identified)
- Labeled example of below ground activity and structure of geological characteristics
- Feature/profiles on area workers
- Feature on oil related products
- Feature on economic impacts on the community, region and state
- Video component featuring footage on
- How a well is drilled
- Workers on a site
- Trucks and equipment
The goals and benefits:
- Create a unique, educational and true to life display of a drilling rig and work-over rig that will attract visitors to the McKenzie County Pioneer Museum from across the region, country and world and educate visitors on:
- the details of the drilling process
- the impact of the oil industry on the local and state's economy
- job creation and retention that comes with each rig development
- geological and environmental impacts of the industry's development
- Work with area high schools, elementary schools and Universities to use the display as a tangible teaching tool to help educate and generate interest from youth in the energy, technology, geology and related industries
- Create a positive relationship with area oil companies by creating more educated and informed community members
- Create and provide educational material for guests to take with them and share with others in their communities
- Become a statewide and national resource on the area oil industry
