Watford City Economic Development Corporation
The Watford City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was formed in 1988 during a volatile time in Watford City’s history. Uncertain agricultural commodity prices and a decrease in oil production left the area facing a shrinking population, a dwindling tax base and possible school closures. City leaders got together and developed strategies to expand and cultivate the local economy. From these conversations, a private 501c3 corporation was formed, funded by private business members with the mission to promote economic expansion, diversification and new businesses. The EDC continues its work today to encourage economic growth by supporting McKenzie County businesses, building diverse industries, growing a skilled workforce and maintaining a high quality of life.
