McKenzie County is a true example of small town spirit making BIG things happen. We continuously work to improve and develop community infrastructure in a stable and strategic way. This commitment and investment in the community is demonstrated through the sheer number of recent projects including:
- Highway 85/Highway 23 Bypass Corridors (downtown traffic reduction) – opened 2014
- New Watford City High School– opened in 2016
- Rough Rider Center (events center, sports/entertainment facility) – opened in 2017
- New McKenzie County Healthcare Systems (regional medical care) – opened in 2017
- City of Arnegard Main Street paving project- completed 2020
- New Fox Hills Elementary School – opened in 2020
- Replacement and 4-laning of Long X Bridge -opened in 2020
- City of Alexander street paving project completed in 2021
- Watford City Municipal Airport $20M+ expansion completed in 2021
- commercial airline service is available in Williston XWA (45 miles away), Dickinson DIK (85 miles away), and Minot MOT (125 miles away)
- McKenzie County Ag Expo slated for completion in 2023
- Bakken Area Skills Center slated for completion in 2024
