Down Payment Assistance Program

The purpose of the JDA Housing Down Payment Assistance Program is to encourage the construction and purchase of single-family homes in McKenzie County by providing down payment financial assistance to homebuyers in McKenzie County who will make the purchased home their primary residence for at least five years. The JDA offers up to $15,000 towards existing home purchases and up to $40,000 towards newly-constructed homes. $4 million has been allocated towards the program-with not more than $1,300,000 to go towards existing home applications.   As of September 22, 2025:

Down Payment Assistance Program FAQs:

  • Is this for first-time homebuyers only? No, this program can be utilized by both first-time homebuyers as well as those who have already owned a home. Just note that the applicant must commit to living in the home for five years.
  • Is there an income requirement? No, there is no income (minimum or maximum) requirement, but an applicant must be pre-approved by a financial institution before applying to this program.
  • Can this be used with other down payment assistance programs? Yes, programs like ND Housing Finance Agency’s down payment assistance program can be used alongside this one.
  • Can this program be utilized if the applicant is paying cash/not using a lender for the home purchase? No, permanent financing from a financial institution is required.
